Creative Services Writer Producer
About the role
KSBW-TV, the Hearst-owned NBC, ABC, and Estrella affiliate serving Monterey, Salinas, Santa Cruz, and California’s Central Coast, is seeking a Creative Services Writer Producer to write, shoot, edit, and design promotion for all media platforms. You will collaborate with the marketing and commercial production team to develop, write, produce, and deliver campaign content for broadcast, streaming, paid media, digital, and social platforms. This role focuses on creativity but also requires strong organizational skills and the ability to work as a responsible self-starter in a fast-paced environment.
The position involves writing, shooting, and editing compelling promotion to drive viewers to KSBW Action News 8 and other media platforms, advancing our brands in a competitive landscape. You will creatively execute news, weather, sports, and entertainment messages, assist with station events and campaigns, and support research-driven objectives. The ideal candidate is motivated, creative, and thrives in a collaborative environment.
This role offers the opportunity to work for Hearst Television, one of the most respected multimedia companies, while living in one of the most beautiful media markets in the country—California’s Central Coast, featuring dramatic landscapes from Big Sur to Santa Cruz.
Responsibilities
- Write, shoot, and edit attention-grabbing news topical and image promotion.
- Use the station’s social media and digital platforms to drive viewer engagement.
- Produce image promos, targeted sweeps stories, and investigative promos.
- Produce entertainment and programming promotion.
- Edit using Adobe Creative Suite, including Premiere Pro and After Effects.
- Shoot using Canon C300 Mark III, DSLRs, and an array of lenses.
- Work closely with news producers, anchors, photographers, and managers.
- Meet time-sensitive deadlines without compromising quality.
- Contribute creatively across all departments.
- In-person attendance required.
Requirements
- Media or television station experience preferred.
- Television Writer/Editor/Producer experience preferred.
- Experience with Adobe Premiere Pro and Adobe After Effects preferred.
- Strong editing skills; Adobe Premiere experience preferred.
- Experience creating compelling promos.
- Ability to write, produce, and edit promos from start to finish.
- Meet tight deadlines and adapt to project demands.
- Highly organized with attention to detail.
- Handle multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
- Work efficiently under time constraints.
- Communicate effectively with all levels of personnel.
- Work a flexible schedule, including overtime if necessary.
- Strong collaborator with a great attitude.
- Takes critiques and direction well.
- Advanced knowledge of social media platforms.
- Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite.
- Knowledge of production processes, including non-linear editing.
- Knowledge of videography and lighting.
- Demonstrated ability to write compelling, conversational copy.
- Work well under extreme deadlines.
- Must be a team player.
- Bilingual a plus.
- Related military training (e.g., Defense Information School) and experience considered.

Pay
The estimated base salary range for this role is $45,000 to $50,000. Actual base pay depends on transferable skills, work experience, business needs, market demands, and geographic location. The range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
