CREATIVE DIRECTOR

Creative Director Job Department Creative Team Seeking an artistic and highly organized person with an affinity for Asian American arts and culture. You’ll lead the creative team which includes an Art Director, Photo Director, photo editor and designers, and work closely with the editorial staff to develop and maintain the artistic design of Hyphen's new online iteration. You’ll also be a member of the Hyphen leadership team, a collaborative leadership structure comprised of team leads and longtime staffers. Requirements Strong visual senseHighly organized and detail-oriented with excellent verbal & written communication skillsEnthusiasm for Hyphen subject matter, Hyphen as a magazine and Hyphen as a part of the Asian American landscapeAbility to communicate ideas visually and work creatively within limited budgetsAbility to work as part of a larger team including supervising: editors, director of photography, art director, and designers at all stages of content developmentAbility to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and meet both short- and long-term deadlinesResponsiveness and availability with communicationAttend once a month biz/edit meetings (1.5 hours)Attend once a month leadership team meetings (1.5 hours) General Duties And Responsibilities Trains and supervises assigned staff of artists, production and personnel; oversees their execution of all creative efforts to ensure team is on strategy, budget and scheduleOversees all creative elements of online publication, including:managing multiple deadlinesassigning stories to editorial designers for layoutoverseeing workflowworking with Art Director and Director of Photography to assign artwork to illustrators and photographers for layoutCoordinates marketing communications designOversees and manages overall brand identity of the organization at largeMaintains design integrity of the publicationEnvisions and develops new ways to engage readershipSupervises / oversees creative design team, including:scheduling and facilitating creative team meetingsscheduling and facilitating team building get togethers and activitiesLiaise between creative / edit and creative / bizAssists in front-end development of websiteMentors junior designers Knowledge And Skills Adobe suite with a strong focus on InDesign, Illustrator, and PhotoshopGoogle docs and online file managementDropboxNimble with learning new programs Hyphen uses at larger to project manage stories + projects, such as Drupal, Trello & Slack How To Apply Resume, cover letter, and portfolio of 10-20 layouts/spreads to: getinvolved@hyphenmagazine.comDescription of any past leadership experience involving supervising other team membersEmail this page
