Creative Designer- Interior

About the Role

General Motors North America is seeking a highly creative design individual to join one of the world’s most exciting design studios, located in Warren, Michigan. This role offers the opportunity to work on forward-thinking, extraordinary elements in production design across interiors, exteriors, components, accessories, lighting, and product. As part of a connected, global design team, you will research, design, and create innovative concepts for automotive and mobility applications, from inception to implementation. The ideal candidate thrives in a team environment, manages multiple tasks and timelines, and demonstrates strong design perception, taste, judgment, and creativity.

Responsibilities

• Create unique interior designs and concepts for production vehicles through 2-D sketches, 3-D sketches, animations (e.g., AI), and collaboration with clay and digital sculpting teams.
• Collaborate frequently with the design team, sculpting organization, engineering, and fabrication teams to develop new designs.
• Take a big-picture perspective on customer needs and future transportation to create provocative concepts and designs.
• Provide insight and recommendations to leadership while acting upon guidance in a deadline-driven environment.
• Maintain knowledge of current design trends and technology, and present ideas frequently to management and leadership.
• Exhibit courage in challenging expectations and follow the design process from sketch to final clay model.
• Coordinate the work of other design personnel and collaborate with multiple partners to achieve design goals.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Design (Automotive, Transportation, Industrial, or related field).
• 2+ years of professional experience in a design-related field; automotive experience is strongly desired.
• Strong understanding of form and excellent drawing skills.
• Proven creative proficiency and demonstrated ability with electronic tools to communicate 2-D ideations.
• Ability to work independently and within a team, as well as provide mentoring.
• Portfolio must include several series of sketches and ideations.
