Creative Arts Therapist (Art or Dance/Movement Therapist)

HJF is seeking a Creative Arts Therapist (Art or Dance/Movement Therapist) to support the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Creative Forces program located at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, WA. The role focuses on developing, implementing, and evaluating creative arts therapies for patients while fostering positive relationships with patients, families, staff, and the community. The mission of the Creative Forces Network is to improve the health, wellbeing, and quality of life of trauma-exposed military service members, veterans, and their families through clinical creative arts therapies and community arts engagement.

The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine. Since 1983, HJF has served as a vital link between the military medical community and its federal and private partners, supporting preeminent scientific programs that benefit armed forces members and civilians alike.

Responsibilities

• Work with patients, families, and staff to assess needs from a creative therapy perspective.
• Meet with individuals and parents/guardians to explain the creative arts therapy program.
• Assess individual and/or group needs, identify goals, and develop plans accordingly.
• Participate in developing documentation standards for creative arts therapies assessments and interventions.
• Document interventions in patient medical records according to established standards.
• Develop materials to explain and promote the program.
• Design measures to evaluate program effectiveness.
• Maintain an age-appropriate and safe selection of art supplies, equipment, and materials.
• Actively integrate creative arts therapies with other psychosocial services.
• Collaborate with departmental and hospital staff to address patient or systemic issues.
• Perform additional duties as assigned, including required training.

Requirements

• Master’s degree from an accredited program:
  • Art Therapist: Accredited art therapy program.
  • Dance/Movement Therapist: ADTA-accredited dance/movement therapy or equivalency program.
• Minimum of two (2) years of relevant clinical internship or work experience.
• Experience with military-connected patients exposed to trauma or similar populations preferred.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to relate to diverse patient populations.
• Sensitivity to individuals from varied backgrounds and cultures.
• Competency with age-specific needs from childhood through young adulthood.
• Must obtain and maintain a T1/Public Trust background check.
• Physical capability to lift materials up to 10 lbs.

Licenses and Certifications

• Art Therapist: ATR-P, ATR, or ATR-BC (maintained through continuing education as required by the ATCB).
• Dance/Movement Therapist: R-DMT or BC-DMT (maintained through continuing education as required by the DMTCB).

Work Environment

This position is primarily based in an office setting.

Pay

The annual salary range for this position is $80,168.40–$85,000, with actual salary determined based on experience and education.
