About the role

This non-exempt position operates an overhead crane to move objects, components, and materials. The role reports to the Foreman and follows specific procedures with frequent work checks. The position is located in Norco, LA.

Responsibilities

  • Operate overhead crane from a cab to move materials throughout accessible areas.
  • Perform daily crane inspections and report unsatisfactory findings to the Foreman.
  • Read and interpret load charts and understand hand signals for communication.
  • Read and sign off on Job Safety Analyses (JSA).
  • Use hand levers to control crane functions and receive verbal communication for material movement.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment at all times.
  • Act as Assembly/Disassembly (A/D) director for all buyer cranes.
  • Select and inspect rigging hardware (e.g., synthetic & wire rope slings, shackles, spreader bars, rolling blocks, chain hoists, come-a-longs).
  • Apply working knowledge of alternative lifting methods (e.g., gantries, jack & sliding, bull rigging).
  • Perform additional assignments as directed by the supervisor.

Requirements

  • NCCER or NCCCO certification for crane operation (small hydraulic fixed cab, large hydraulic swing cab cranes).
  • NCCER or NCCCO certification as a rigging and signal person.
  • Verifiable industrial experience in assembly/disassembly and operation of all four types of cranes.
  • Working knowledge of rigging hardware attachment and proper use.
  • Ability to plan and execute lifts in an industrial setting.
  • Valid TWIC card and state-issued Class A CDL driver’s license.
  • Ability to pass a drug test and background check.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience operating cranes (2.5 ton to 160 ton).
  • Pre-employment qualification test, drug/alcohol screen, and physical evaluation (if applicable).
  • Compliance with job site Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements (e.g., hearing protection, safety glasses, long sleeve shirt, gloves, steel toe boots).

Skills

  • Ability to stay awake, alert, and aware of surroundings.
  • Physical ability to climb ladders, scaffolds, and structures; maintain balance; reach in all directions; handle and manipulate objects; lift 30–50 pounds; and perform tasks requiring standing, sitting, walking, pushing, pulling, bending, kneeling, crouching, or squatting.
  • Ability to work in excessive heat, cold, or loud environments while wearing respirators and other PPE.
  • Good vision and hearing (with or without correction).
