CRANE INSTALLER / M-F / 6A-2:30P

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt (Hourly) • Location: Kansas City, MO

About the role

Responsible for performing heavy duty crane modifications, installations and repairs to damaged cranes and crane parts, plus crane repair and maintenance work in accordance with Custom Truck and factory standards under the general direction of the Crane Shop Manager.

Responsibilities

• Installation and removal of different types of crane and crane equipment.
• Modification of crane truck wheelbases.
• Installation and removal of crane truck suspensions.
• Perform work as outlined on crane order with efficiency and accuracy, in accordance with Custom Truck and factory standards.
• Fabrication and installation of components related to crane equipment installations.
• Keep shop area neat and clean and account for all tools at all times.
• Follow both written and verbal installation instructions.
• Use and maintain all necessary shop equipment required to complete any crane repairs or PM inspections.
• Dispose of used oil, grease, antifreeze and filters in the assigned location to ensure EPA compliance.
• Clean and properly equip assigned area to perform all necessary repairs to equipment.
• Communicate with parts department to obtain needed parts.
• Tag all warranty and core parts and take to area for return, ensuring proper credit is allowed.
• Advise Crane Manager immediately if additional work is needed, if work outlined is not needed, or if installations or repairs cannot be completed within the time promised.
• Document work performed.
• Attend factory-sponsored training classes.
• Ensure that customers’ cranes are kept clean.
• Test crane to quality-check work performed.
• Work with all departments in harmony.
• Attend and participate in Custom Truck monthly safety training classes.

Requirements

• Crane installations.
• Welding and fabrication of cranes.
• Knowledge of 12V electrical systems including multi-plex wiring.
• Basic understanding of truck mounted crane hydraulic systems and installation procedures.
• Proficiency with sockets and wrenches through 1 ½ SAE and 22 MM metric.
• Experience with air tools including minimum ½ inch air drill and impact.
• Use of pliers, screwdrivers, and pipe wrenches.
• Test equipment including 12V test light and VOM meter.
• Welder’s hood and small hand clamps.

• This is a physically demanding position; the employee will stand eight or more hours per shift.
