Responsibilities

  • Develop and drive end-to-end CPU architecture specifications for highly optimized, modular, and scalable CPUs based on hardware features, requirements, and interoperability of hardware and software throughout the product life cycle.
  • Understand CPU requirements and define targets (performance, power, frequency, and area) and content (features) that meet the requirements.
  • Evaluate feasibility tradeoffs, explore, and define new approaches and novel architectures for CPUs.
  • Invent, conceptualize, and specify architectural and microarchitectural features to deliver optimized CPU requirements for multiple segments from high-performance computing to extreme low-power products.
  • Develop, define, and document new instructions to support new use cases and improve existing use cases, supporting the new instruction set architecture (ISA).
  • Model CPU performance and power, analyze bottlenecks of current CPUs on workloads that reflect future CPU usage.
  • Develop tests, test plans, and testing infrastructure for new architectures/features for CPUs, perform functional modeling simulations, and conduct analysis of test results using advanced statistics and data predictions for benchmarking performance and determining areas for improvement.
  • Provide experimental/proof of concept changes for proposing design alternatives meeting performance, power, area, and timing constraints.
  • Review, challenge, and influence cross-functional roadmaps and define technology targets for future CPUs.
  • Collaborate with architects, design, verification, and validation engineers during project execution.
  • Deliver definitions of new microarchitecture and find mitigations for issues that arise during feature implementation to improve overall CPU design and overcome bottlenecks and constraints.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's in CS, EECS, ECE, or related computing discipline with 3+ years' experience, OR
  • Master's in CS, EECS, ECE, or related computing discipline with 2+ years' experience, OR
  • PhD in CS, EECS, ECE, or related computing discipline.
  • Experience with high-performance micro-architecture techniques and research.
  • Experience with CPU architecture and micro-architecture simulators, tracing technologies, and performance analysis.
  • 6+ months of experience or coursework with C++.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD in CS, EECS, ECE, or related discipline.
  • Internship or experience in a CPU design or verification role.
  • Advanced skills with Object-Oriented Programming (C++/STL).

Pay

Annual Salary Range for jobs which could be performed in the US: $122,440.00 - $172,860.00 USD. The range reflects the minimum and maximum target compensation for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

Schedule

This role will be eligible for our hybrid work model, which allows employees to split their time between working on-site at their assigned Intel site and off-site.
