Qualifications
- Associate's Degree preferred
- Willing and able to participate in in-service training
- Demonstrated ability in working with students in formal and informal situations and show evidence of successful work experience
- Eligible to obtain a State Paraprofessional Aide License
Responsibilities
- Assist the teacher in achieving teaching objectives by working with individual students or small groups to help them achieve the skill levels of the class as a whole under the direction of the classroom teacher and the supervision of the building principal
- Work with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of material or skills initially introduced by the teacher
- Assist the teacher in devising special strategies for reinforcing material skills based on a sympathetic understanding of individual students, their needs, interests, and abilities
- Guide independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work set up and signed by the teacher
- Correct papers and supervise testing and makeup work as assigned by the teacher
- Assist with such large group activities as reading aloud and storytelling
- Serve as the chief source of information and help any substitute teacher assigned in the absence of the regular teacher
- Alert the regular teacher to any problem or special information about an individual student
- Maintain the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of teachers
- Participate in in-service training programs as assigned
- Keep classroom or school learning displays up to date
- Assist with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, play periods, and field trips
- Work with individual or small groups of students on specific skills and/or assignments
- Assist in classroom by answering individual student's questions while they are working on assignments
- Monitor/assist students during lunch, free-time activities, or work placements
- Administer medications to students consistent with District policies and student IEPs
- Assist students with personal health needs such as feeding, walking, etc.
- Accompany student to inclusion classes, as needed
- Keyboard study materials, classroom materials, examinations, and correspondence
- Assist in classroom documentation
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned by the teacher, principal, or designee
