About the Role
The CPD Certified Technician performs all reprocessing activities involving instruments, supplies, and equipment used for patient care. Receives, collects, and transports contaminated instruments and supplies. Operates and cleans all department equipment and performs all sterilization monitoring activities. Serves as a resource to other department members and to other hospital staff as needed, and performs other job-related duties as requested.
Responsibilities
- Collects, transports, receives, and processes contaminated instruments, equipment, linen, and refuse.
- Sorts, inspects, assembles, wraps, and sterilizes various instrumentation, linens, and miscellaneous supplies according to preprinted kit lists.
- Performs and interprets all sterilization monitoring activities.
- Retrieves preference cards from the computer based on the case schedule.
- Inventories and replenishes sterile linens for surgery, operating room, and labor/delivery, recovery areas.
- Prepares case carts according to preprinted preference cards.
- Serves as a resource to co-workers and other hospital staff as needed.
- Tracks supply inventory and reports shortages to team leader or supervisor.
- Assists other department staff and performs other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor.
Requirements
- High School graduate or equivalent.
- Certification as Registered Central Service Technician (RCST) required.
- One year previous experience in central processing operations preferred.
- Must be able to effectively communicate with other department members and hospital staff.
- Proficiency in the English language required.
