About the role

The Clackamas County Circuit Court is hiring a Courtroom Clerk for the Honorable Kara Brooks. In this role, you will provide administrative support to the judge in court.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare the courtroom for the day’s proceedings.
  • Swear in witnesses.
  • Mark and maintain exhibits.
  • Maintain audio and electronic records.
  • Update the case management system.
  • Facilitate remote hearings.
  • Manage juries.
  • Draw, empanel, and maintain the transportation and security of jurors.
  • Serve as liaison between jurors, the court, and counsel for exhibits, forms, instructions, and questions.
  • Assist attorneys, litigants, and the public in using court services and answer questions about case status or court procedures.
  • Back up the judicial assistant by preparing files for pretrial review, preparing motions, orders, and judgments, managing the judge’s docket and legal library, retrieving case law, assisting in case scheduling and tracking, and reviewing documents filed with the court for accuracy and completeness.

Requirements

The qualified candidate must have at least three (3) or more years of responsible experience in a moderately complex office or business setting involving the processing of financial, administrative, or legal documents AND Possess a high school diploma or equivalent OR Any combination of education and experience equivalent to three (3) years of experience that typically supports the knowledge, skills, and abilities for the position.

Experience using a variety of software programs to access and input information and complete various tasks.

Skill responding tactfully and professionally to customers or clients who are facing challenging life circumstances or stressful situations.
Experience working in a court or legal environment.

Benefits

To You We pay 95% to 99% of medical insurance premiums for full-time employees [OR up to 99% of medical insurance premiums for part-time employees], including mental health coverage. The hourly equivalent for this position is $27.49 - $42.65. [OR The annual salary for this position is $57,183 - $88,708.]

Schedule

This is a full-time position, and the work schedule is 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. This position is eligible for overtime compensation for hours worked in excess of 40 per work week. Occasional after-hours or overtime work may be required.

Location Highlights

Oregon City, Oregon rests on the Willamette River southeast of Portland. It is part of the Portland Metropolitan Area (along with Beaverton, Gresham, Hillsboro, and Vancouver, WA). Oregon City was the first capital of Oregon prior to the creation of the Oregon Territory in 1848. Before settling on Salem in 1864, the capital was moved several times to several different cities. It is also the end point of the Oregon Trail. Oregon City has the only “vertical street” in the nation, Elevator Street. Activities include museums, historic buildings, and over 22 city parks, including Clackamette Park at the confluence of the Willamette and Clackamas rivers. Oregon City is also home to Willamette Falls, the largest waterfall by volume in the Pacific Northwest.
