About the role
Operate a Mercy patient transport van to include pick-up and delivery of patients consistent with established guidelines of practice. Responsible for the safe and proper transfer of non-ambulatory patients to and from the wheelchair, safe transport of patients via the wheelchair, ambulation assistance to and from the transport van for ambulatory patients, and proper and safe transport of both non-ambulatory and ambulatory patients via the transport van.
Responsibilities
- Inspect the transport van daily and report any deficiencies to management promptly.
- Keep the van clean at all times; keep the vehicle sufficiently fueled.
- Perform related duties as assigned; provide exceptional customer service to all in keeping with Mercy's mission, values, and Service Standards.
Requirements
- Licensure: Valid driver's license required. Contingent upon maintaining a current and valid E Class or equivalent driver’s license for states requiring it.
- Preferred Education: High School Diploma/GED
- Preferred Experience: 1+ year(s) experience driving passengers using a transport van or equivalent
Skills
- Competent with transfer and lift techniques and utilization of a gait belt for ambulatory patients;
- Competent with disconnecting wall oxygen and transferring to portable oxygen with accurate liter setting for transport;
- Competent with operating the wheelchair lift and securing system;
- Good customer service skills;
- Able to communicate clearly by use of UHF radio with dispatch;
- Ensure vehicle is kept clean and serviced appropriately;
- Report all defects to manager.
