Court Reporter - Real Time Certified (Steno/Voice Writer)
Description
Tulare County Superior Court is hiring for Voice Writers and Steno Court Reporters. Benefits and Incentives:
- Sign-on incentive of up to $6,000 for newly hired full-time court reporters.
- Up to 5 hours per week of paid release time for official court reporter business.
- 6% salary differential with NCRA certification for Realtime Certification Pay.
- Extra pay for Realtime / CART services.
- Up to $1,000 per fiscal year for approved, job-related expenses.
- Reimbursement of CSR annual license fees, up to $500 per fiscal year.
- $1,000 finder’s fee for successful referrals.
Definition
Under general supervision, court reporters record and transcribe verbatim stenographic accounts of official court proceedings utilizing real time program(s).
Supervision Received and Exercised
Supervision is provided by the Courtroom Services Manager, or designee, and schedule coordination is provided by the Court Reporter Coordinator.
Essential Functions
Take and transcribe verbatim minutes of all Court proceedings as required utilizing real time reporting software (e.g. Livenote or Caseview), which includes accessing conflict resolution, dictionary entries and phonetic dictionary; Reads back all or portions of the official court proceedings upon instruction from the judge; Identify speakers properly, and note the introduction of exhibits or evidence; Prepare transcriptions in proper legal form; Meet court-fixed deadlines for transcriptions; Report proceedings, which may include: criminal, conservatorship, mental competency hearings, civil and criminal contempt, juvenile, civil 232, family law, civil jury trials, petitions for extraordinary relief, injunctions, and writs (i.e. of mandated, prohibition and habeas corpus); Attend staff and other work-related meetings, workshops, seminars, and other continuing education opportunities; Serve as a representative of the Court, displaying courtesy, tact, consideration and discretion in all interactions with other members of the Court community and with the public.

Minimum Qualifications
Education: Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade AND completion of an accredited court reporting school.
Experience: One-year experience in the courtroom as a certified court reporter.
Licenses or Certificates: Possession of a valid certification by the State of California as a Certified Shorthand Reporter. Certified by the National Court Reporter Association.

The information listed below is a general summary of benefits. Vacation: 11 days initially; 16 days after 3 years; 20 days after 8 years; 25 days after 11 years (300 hours accrual limitation).
Holidays: 14 holidays + 2 floating holidays per year.

Retirement: The retirement plan is a defined benefit plan administered pursuant to the 1937 Act County Employees Retirement Act and integrated with Social Security. In addition to ordinary retirement benefits, the plan provides disability and death benefits. Retirement contributions are made by both the Tulare County Superior Court and the employee. The Tulare County Superior Court has reciprocity with the State of California, contracting PERS agencies, State Teachers’ Retirement System, and all County 1937 Act Retirement Systems.
