Court Reporter I
About the role
Provides professional verbatim reporting and transcribing for court proceedings, hearings and conferences. Employees in this classification have not obtained their Registered Professional Reporter (RPR) certification through the National Court Reporters Association (NCRA).
This requisition is regarding position #21107 for a vacant court reporter position. This position is part of a progressive job series, and placement will be determined based on minimum qualifications and the relevant experience of the successful applicant. There are four requisitions posted: Court Reporter I – Uncertified (Requisition Number: JD06473), Court Reporter II - Certified (Requisition Number: JD06474), Court Reporter III – Colorado Standard (Requisition Number: JD06475), and Court Reporter IV – CRR (Requisition Number: JD06476). We will fill one position within this series based on the district's hiring needs and the qualifications and relevant experience of the selected applicant.

Responsibilities
- Produces an accurate rendering of the verbatim court record utilizing stenographic reporting and transcription of court proceedings.
- Reviews, formats, and proofreads transcripts and provides real time translation for judges.
- Maintains file(s) and records/logs of notes and uses notes to fulfill transcripts requests.
- Prepares cost estimates for transcript requests.
- Bills and invoices for transcript's costs and maintains an accurate log of all transcript requests.
- Prepares required reports and documentation pursuant to Chief Justice Directive 05-03 and local policies and procedures.
- Communicates with court staff regarding court proceedings and communicates with attorneys and clients who are ordering transcripts of said proceedings.
- Maintains reporting equipment.
- Troubleshoots and/or obtains technical support to resolve equipment related issues as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education and Experience Equivalency: Associate's degree or 2 years of college. Additional relevant work experience may be substituted on a year for year basis for the required formal education.
Work Related Experience: Less than 1 year of related experience.

Work environment
- Physical Effort: Medium Work - Exerting up to 35 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly having to move objects.
- Work Environment: Good - Relatively free from unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards.
- Work Location: Office or similar indoor environment.
- Exposures: Individuals who are hostile or irate; individuals with known violent backgrounds.
Pay
Salary Range: $48,935.52 - $70,956.60. Salary offers will be determined based on several factors, including relevant experience, budget availability, and compliance with the Equal Pay for Equal Work Act. Offers will align with the Colorado Judicial Department's compensation step plan.
