Court Reporter (Contract)

Neal R. Gross and Co., a leading Court Reporting and Transcription services company based in the Washington, DC area, serves local, state and federal courts, the House of Representatives, the Department of Defense, and private‑sector clients. The firm is seeking experienced Court Reporters to work on a contract basis, traveling to client sites in their local area.

Responsibilities

• Take down proceedings using machine shorthand, voice, or digital capture.
• Capture verbatim records of courts, meetings, depositions, and hearings.
• Administer oaths and participate in depositions, hearings, and other legal proceedings.
• Transport, set up, and operate equipment to ensure accurate record capture.
• Perform advance preparation for assignments, including building job worksheets, reviewing case information, and ensuring proper hardware setup.
• Secure all exhibits, perform proper file backups, and complete and upload required worksheets at the close of the proceeding.
• Maintain required reports and logs and respond promptly to communications.
• Represent NRGCO professionally in all proceedings and interactions.
• Interact with high‑level clients such as federal, state, and private industry representatives.

Requirements

• 1+ years experience working as a Court Reporter.
• Prior experience and personal equipment required; no training is provided.
• Strong attention to detail, reliable punctuality, and deadline orientation.
• Can‑do attitude, excellent work ethic, and ability to work independently.
• Organizational and time‑management aptitude.
• Exceptional problem‑solving and communication skills.
• Excellent English language proficiency.
• Proficiency with technology.
• Ability to pass security screening for access to client sites, including government buildings.
• NCRA, AAERT, or NVRA certification strongly preferred.

Location: In‑person work at client sites in the reporter’s local area. Flexible scheduling—from a few jobs a month to 2‑3 per week.
