About the Program

Coursera for Rice provides free access to over 80 Rice University online courses on Coursera for current Rice University students, faculty, and staff. Using a Rice NetID, you gain premium access to an expanding catalog of Rice's courses and specializations, enabling full participation, discussion forum engagement, and certificate earning upon completion.

Enroll in highly-rated courses developed and taught by Rice faculty, covering high-demand subjects such as data analysis using Excel, Python programming, and mindfulness techniques.

Access Details

  • All current Rice students, faculty, and staff can enroll in any Rice course offered on Coursera.
  • Academic credit is not awarded for these courses, but you can earn a certificate from Coursera upon completion.
  • Coursera for Rice offers free, premium access to all Rice courses, including graded assignments, full participation in discussion forums, and certificate eligibility—unlike the main Coursera site, where these features may require payment.

Course Structure

  • Courses are self-paced, with most designed to be completed in 4-6 weeks with 3-6 hours of weekly investment.
  • You can browse and use course materials as a supplement to current coursework or interests without time constraints.
