About the Role

The Courier is responsible for the pick-up and delivery of water, soil, and air samples to and from the laboratory. This role ensures the quality, hold time, and turnaround time objectives of the lab are met. Responsibilities include preparing and delivering bottle orders to clients, receiving and stocking sample control supplies, preparing and shipping sample kits, performing sampling events as needed, and disposing of samples and hazardous waste according to guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all duties as outlined in the Standard Operating Procedures for Couriers.
  • Pick up and deliver samples, bottle orders, and reports to the laboratory for sign-in and analysis.
  • Count the number of samples when receiving them from clients to ensure the Chain of Custody and samples match.
  • Verify that samples are not broken or damaged.
  • Receive and sign the Chain of Custody.
  • Ensure that the client signs, dates, and records the time on the Chain of Custody when releasing samples.
  • Transport samples on ice from client sites to the lab or from the lab to a sub-contracted laboratory.
  • Unload samples and inspect for damage or violated hold times to maintain sample integrity.
  • Interact with Project Managers and clients professionally.
  • Follow directions or use maps to locate client offices/sites as specified in the courier request form.
  • Communicate effectively with the courier coordinator about the courier schedule.
  • Record arrival and departure times in the courier log book for all pick-ups and deliveries.
  • Maintain records for vehicle maintenance and driving miles; submit records at the end of each month.
  • Restock supplies to ensure availability for employees.
  • Verify the validity and completeness of all bottle orders prior to delivery.
  • Perform duties in accordance with Section 14 of the Transportation and Fleet Safety of the Corporate Safety Manual.
  • Comply with the Company’s driver policies.
  • Maintain the shipping/receiving area to ensure a safe work environment.
  • Prepare outgoing shipments of bottle kits and coolers for pick-up.
  • Perform on-site sampling events as needed.
  • Dispose of samples according to guidelines monthly to remain compliant with Environmental Protection Agency and Environmental Health & Safety requirements.
  • Maintain the delivery truck to keep it in proper working order.
  • Label samples after log-in as needed.
  • Perform other sample control duties as assigned by laboratory management.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to read maps and follow directions.
  • Proficiency in operating a motor vehicle.
  • Computer skills preferred.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Authorization to work in the United States indefinitely without restriction or sponsorship.
  • Professional working proficiency in English, including reading, writing, and speaking.

Schedule

This is a full-time position, Monday through Friday, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Pay rate: $16 per hour.
