About the Role
Transport patient specimens, supplies, pharmaceuticals, mail, and valuable packages to and from the hospital, physician offices, community medical centers, other hospitals, DHEC, and other locations.
Responsibilities
- Map daily routes to provide delivery and pick-up service.
- Accurately distribute and deliver all specimens or parcels to appropriate locations.
- Collect laboratory specimens from reference laboratory accounts, verifying patient demographic information and physician’s name.
- Ensure proper routine en-route storage of specimens, following "special handling" instructions, and transport specimens safely according to CAP and OSHA standards.
- Deliver mail requiring special handling or expediting to the Post Office.
- Stay updated on procedure and policy changes.
- Maintain and care for the hospital vehicle.
- Clock in and deliver laboratory specimens, parcels, supplies, and mail to correct departments in a timely manner.
- Adhere to routes and schedules while maintaining professionalism and courtesy with all individuals encountered.
- Respond appropriately to customer problems and maintain a positive, professional image.
- Represent the hospital positively to physician offices, community medical centers, and the general public.
- Make small purchases as directed by the laboratory and deliver specimen collection supplies to reference accounts.
- Maintain accurate paperwork, including logging supplies and moneybags.
- Obtain dry ice for the laboratory as needed.
- Adhere to safety standards for specimen transportation.
- Perform additional duties as assigned or required in emergencies.
- Wear the LMC Courier Services shirt, khaki pants, and name badge at all times while on duty.
- Follow posted speed limits and remain flexible, as routes may vary daily.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or Equivalent.
- Valid SC driver’s license with an acceptable driving safety record.
