Counselor - Middle School (Bilingual Preferred, Spanish) (Temporary)

Temporary 0.50 FTE contract for the 2026-2027 school year (183 contract days). Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.

About the role

The Counselor – Middle School provides information on students' functioning and recommendations regarding their successful transition to high school, develops plans and provides information regarding students' goals, and secures appropriate placement of students.

Responsibilities

• Advises students, parents, and guardians on students' progress and recommendations for transition to high school.
• Coordinates with teachers, resource specialists, and community agencies (e.g., courts, child protective services) to gather or provide information and make recommendations.
• Counsels students, parents, and guardians to enhance student success in school.
• Monitors student records to develop plans and provide information regarding students' goals.
• Prepares documentation (e.g., observations, progress reports, contacts with parents, teachers, outside professionals) to provide written support, develop recommendations, and convey information.
• Presents information on topics such as behavior management to provide required information and advice.
• Schedules student classes to secure appropriate placement and meet graduation and college eligibility requirements.
• Administers proficiency tests to assist in determining student placement and eligibility for courses of study.
• Assists other personnel to support the completion of their work activities.
• Participates in extracurricular school and community activities to provide supervision and represent the school.
• Supervises assigned programs (e.g., peer counseling, special education, ESL) to monitor performance and achieve curriculum objectives.

Requirements

• State of Oregon School Counselor license with K-12 authorization.
• Current First Aid Card.
• Skills to communicate effectively and problem-solve.
• Knowledge of curriculum, education code, district policies, and problem-solving methodology.
• Ability to sit for prolonged periods, maintain and verify completeness of records, meet schedules and deadlines, and communicate with persons of varied cultural and educational backgrounds.
• Significant physical abilities include reaching, handling, fingering, talking, hearing conversations, near visual acuity, and visual accommodation.

Preference given to applicants with work or lived experience with culturally, linguistically, and racially diverse communities.

Pay

2026-2027 annual salary range: $24,946 – $51,842 (based on a 192/193-day contract). Salary and stipends are prorated based on FTE and start/end dates. Initial placement on the salary schedule is based on education and contracted licensed experience.

Eligible for a $953 specialty stipend if certified multilingual in Spanish, Arabic, Ukrainian, American Sign Language, or Russian (must pass a standardized proficiency test).
