Counselor I - Behavioral Health Specialist (32 hours per pay period, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10 AM – 6 PM) (Open) (Open)

About the Role

Provides assessment and treatment of psychological symptoms and coordinates additional mental healthcare referrals as needed for patients identified to have behavioral health and/or mental health disorders. Conducts educational programs and activities to promote mental health wellness. Models appropriate behavior as exemplified in the organization's Mission, Vision, and Values.

Responsibilities

• Interviews referred clients to provide behavioral health counseling and assess needs.
• Evaluates patients in crisis situations to determine appropriate course of intervention and facilitates internal and/or external referrals when necessary.
• Develops plans of care with patients and provides case management functions, including linking and arranging services.
• Utilizes empirically-supported psychological interventions to treat commonly occurring mental health conditions, coordinating with collaborating medical providers as needed to promote overall health and wellness.
• Promotes and provides behavioral health education and standards of care in the community and among employees as requested.
• Monitors the clinic's behavioral health program, gathers data to measure outcomes, and identifies opportunities for improvement in coordination with the leadership team.
• Performs other job functions as assigned or requested.

Requirements

• Master's Degree in Social Work (required). Preferred degrees include Master's in Counseling or Psychology.
• 1-3 years of counseling experience (required).
• Temporary Licensed Professional Counselor-Mental Health Service Provider designation in Tennessee (required).
• Preferred licenses:
  • Licensed Master Social Worker (Tennessee or Mississippi).
  • Provisional Licensed Professional Counselor (Mississippi).
  • Temporary Licensed Master Social Worker (Tennessee).

Skills

• Demonstrates cultural competency and knowledge of interventions with special populations.
• Basic computer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Office programs, interpreting reports, and EMR documentation.
• Ability to assess situations to create appropriate care plans and find solutions to barriers in the behavioral health care system.
• Ability to independently think and collaboratively develop a health navigation program.
• Ability to effectively communicate daily with patients, families, school or employer officials, and peers to implement programs.
• Ability to conduct all activities in accordance with professional ethics and values.
• Analyzes problems using knowledge, skills, general precedents, and practices for needed assessments.
• Uses judgment in adapting broad guidelines to achieve desired results.
• Makes recommendations and refers exceptions that affect policies, procedures, and practices to the supervisor.
• Thorough knowledge of current theories and principles of mental health disorders and best-practice counseling techniques.
• Ability to work independently with minimal on-site supervision.
• Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Performs duties within the scope of general organizational policies, procedures, and objectives.

Supervision

Guides the work of others who perform essentially the same work. May organize, set priorities, schedule, and review work but has no responsibility to hire, terminate, review performance, or make pay decisions.

Physical Demands

• The physical activities of this position may include climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion.
• Must have good balance and coordination.
• Light work: exerting up to 25 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 10 lbs. of force frequently.
• Close visual acuity required for activities such as preparing and analyzing data, transcribing, viewing a computer terminal, or extensive reading.
• Not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions; job functions are typically performed under general office or administrative work conditions.
