Counselor

Description We seek applicants for full-time counselors to join our Student Counseling and Wellness Services team in assisting students facing crises, life traumas, and other mental health barriers that impede personal and academic stability and success. Counselors coordinate prevention, intervention, clinical counseling, and support services across campus and/or in the community. General Responsibilities Include But Are Not Limited To Provide triage and individual/group counseling to students with emotional, social, career, academic, and addiction issues Conduct crisis intervention, suicide prevention work, risk assessment, and mental health status evaluationsDevelop, implement, and evaluate direct and indirect outreach presentations and workshopsCoordinate student transitions from HCC Student Counseling Services to external community providers (i.e., psychiatric/psychological treatment services, alcohol and drug treatment services)Provide administrative support in the absence of the Director and supervise counseling interns as assigned (Counselor II only) Requirements Counselor Master’s degree in counseling, psychology, social work, mental health counseling, or related field Current licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Social Worker (LSW), or Psychologist in Illinois or license eligible within 6 months of hireAt least two years’ experience in mental health counseling and case management Experience with crisis intervention, including suicide risk and substance abuse assessmentProven commitment to and understanding of the special needs of students from diverse academic, socioeconomic, and cultural backgroundsAbility to provide counseling services to college students within a short-term model Counselor II In addition to the above listed Counselor requirements, Counselor II requires: Current licensure as a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), or Psychologist in IllinoisAt least three years’ experience in mental health counseling and case management Desired Qualifications Experience working in a college setting Excellent interpersonal communication, leadership, planning, organization, and administrative skills Ability to flexibly manage the professional demands of a challenging workloadAbility to collaborate effectively with on-campus and off-campus partnersAt least two years of supervisory experience (Counselor II only) Anticipated starting salary: Counselor - $64,272; Counselor II - $70,762. Hire at Counselor or Counselor II level is dependent upon qualifications. Position may be contingent upon continued grant funding.
