About the role

The CNSLNG Psychologist 3 HX position at Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS) is responsible for performing diagnosis and psychotherapy on a full range of cases with expertise in LGBTQ+ mental health. This role includes providing individual therapy, conducting crisis intervention, and offering psychoeducational programs to address the cultural and mental health needs of underrepresented populations.

Responsibilities

  • Provides individual therapy to assess the level of pathology and determine appropriate short-term therapeutic modalities for students with serious psychological concerns.
  • Assesses for suicidal ideation and provides appropriate crisis intervention services.
  • Conducts culturally appropriate therapeutic interventions.
  • Consults with senior specialists on highly complex issues.
  • Carefully coordinates care with Student Health and provides on and off-campus referrals as needed.
  • Consults with staff, faculty, and students as requested.
  • Develops and delivers psychoeducational programs addressing the cultural and mental health needs of underrepresented populations.
  • Liaises with LGBTQ+ campus organizations to provide regular outreach to student communities and stay informed about issues impacting students.
  • Approaches clinical service provision from a cultural perspective.
  • Provides clinical guidance and oversight to other professional staff related to LGBTQ+ mental health.
  • Trains and supervises staff, interns, practicum students, or peers as appropriate.
  • Ensures ongoing compliance with state licensing requirements and maintains current licensure to practice psychology in the state of California.
  • Maintains flexible hours within a 40-hour workweek.

Requirements

  • PhD or Psy.D. in Clinical or Counseling Psychology from an APA-accredited doctoral program.
  • License to practice psychology in the State of California or obtained within 6 months.
  • Thorough knowledge of applicable laws and standards of professional conduct.
  • Thorough knowledge of diagnostic/psychological testing methodologies.
  • Highly effective written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Thorough skills associated with conducting complex diagnoses, problem-solving, and critical thinking.
  • Ability to work in a highly collaborative manner with diverse client groups, members of the medical staff, and faculty.
  • Experience working in a university counseling center.
  • Demonstrated experience working with LGBTQ+ communities.
  • Demonstrated knowledge or experience providing counseling to communities with intersectional/interlocking identities.
  • Experience with crisis intervention and/or coordination.

  • Demonstrated ability to provide culturally appropriate therapeutic interventions.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Demonstrated experience working with LGBTQ+ communities.
  • Demonstrated knowledge or experience providing counseling to communities with intersectional/interlocking identities.
  • Experience with crisis intervention and/or coordination.

Pay

The budgeted salary range for this position is $105,350.76 to $126,240.39/year. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience; the budget for the position; and the application of fair, equitable, and consistent pay practices at the University.

Schedule

M-F, 8am to 5pm.
