About the role
Counsel, US Life Insurance is a position within the U.S. Life Operations business units of iA American Holdings and the iA Financial Group. This role provides legal advice and counsel to support various aspects of life insurance and annuity products, ensuring compliance with state and federal laws and regulations.
Responsibilities
- Provide legal advice and counsel in support of claims, marketing, actuarial, data security, and other company functions regarding life insurance and annuity products.
- Provide legal advice on state and federal laws and regulations as they apply to life insurance and annuities and make recommendations to the Chief Legal Counsel to meet company objectives.
- Oversee and manage litigation, arbitration, and regulatory enforcement actions involving the company, and work with outside counsel on litigation strategy, regulatory investigations, and contract disputes.
- Assist with regulatory filings, market conduct exams, and compliance audits from state insurance departments and federal agencies.
- Review, negotiate, and/or draft contracts and agreements entered by the Companies, including policy contracts, property management or lease agreements, service agreements, marketing agreements, third party administration agreements, agreements for acquisitions or dispositions, and others as needed.
- Collaborate with compliance teams to ensure adherence to anti-money laundering (AML), Know Your Customer (KYC), and Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) requirements, and other compliance programs.

- Collaborates with other corporate legal advisors within iA American Holdings and the iA Financial Group and serve as a strategic legal partner to business leaders, providing counsel on corporate initiatives, M&A transactions, and product development.
- Supports the Chief Legal Counsel, U.S. Life Operations as needed to support the business needs of the Companies.
Qualifications
- Known for work experience in corporate and regulatory matters.
- Ability to perform under pressure and manage multiple projects.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience managing staff in a corporate environment and cost-effective management of outside legal resources.
- 7 years of experience practicing law, preferably in a corporate insurance company.
