Counsel, NA Ventures

About the role

Based in East Hanover, NJ, the Counsel will report to the Director & Senior Counsel, Give & Go and NA Ventures Legal Lead. Mondelēz International is the world’s largest chocolate, biscuit and candy maker, and the second largest gum maker, with its North American headquarters in East Hanover. The role provides legal counsel, guidance and support on a wide range of legal matters arising from the day‑to‑day operations of NA Venture companies including Tate’s Bakeshop, Hu and Perfect Snacks, delivering best‑in‑class legal services efficiently, timely and cost‑effectively by anticipating, addressing and creatively resolving legal issues to protect the interests of those companies.

Responsibilities

• Act as counsel for NA Ventures advising on advertising, marketing, competition law, consumer promotions, contract negotiation, contract disputes, litigation, manufacturing, corporate governance, compliance, intellectual property law and data privacy.
• Contribute to achieving corporate and business unit strategic goals as a proactive member of the legal team and functional partner with other business and specialist counsel.
• Partner with the NA Ventures Legal Lead to proactively set and execute legal strategies anticipating and addressing changes in laws, regulations and business environment to the advantage of NA Ventures.
• Collaborate with the North America Legal Commercial team to align on legal strategy and support cross‑functional initiatives.
• Develop and provide best practices training to internal stakeholders.
• Work with the Legal Operations Lead to select and retain competent, cost‑effective outside counsel and experts; develop strong working relationships, frame performance goals, guide work efforts and monitor performance against budget.

Requirements

• JD degree from an accredited law school or equivalent international legal education.
• Must be eligible to practice law in New Jersey or eligible to become licensed as in‑house counsel in New Jersey.
• 5 years of legal experience at a top‑tier law firm and/or in‑house.
• Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) industry experience preferred.

Pay

The base salary range for this position is $140,300 to $192,940; the exact salary depends on factors such as experience, skills, education and location. In addition to base salary, the role is eligible for participation in a highly competitive bonus program with possibility for overachievement based on performance and company results.
