Counsel - Hybrid - Boston Office
About the role
The position is a hybrid of in-person and remote working. As an associate on our team, in addition to supporting senior lawyers by conducting detailed research and memo writing on novel issues, you will handle tort litigation from start to finish, develop legal strategy and collaborate with claim professionals and Arbella insureds.
Responsibilities
- Represent Arbella insureds in the defense of bodily injury and property damage lawsuits
- Interview clients and witnesses
- Prepare for and conduct depositions, hearings, mediations, arbitrations, and trials
- Prepare and argue motions in courts throughout Massachusetts
- Provide advice and assistance to colleagues in Arbella’s Claim Department and other business units
- Negotiate settlements
- Provide support to Senior Counsel on cases and projects
- Monitor and stay abreast of caselaw
- Conduct legal research and draft memoranda
Qualifications
- A JD degree, ability to work with attorneys to develop strategies on a case
- Must be admitted to practice law in Massachusetts
- 3-6 years of insurance defense litigation experience
- Excellent legal research and writing skills
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Strong critical thinking skills
- Adaptability and attention to detail
Skills
- Experience reviewing insurance contracts is a plus
Benefits
The current reasonable and good faith estimate of the annual salary range for this position is approximately $96,000 - $130,000 based on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, relevant skills and experience, educational background and certifications, performance and qualifications, market demand for the role and other organizational needs. This candidate will be eligible for our bonus plan based on program guidelines.
