About the role
General Mills is seeking an Employment Law Counsel to join the Legal & Corporate Affairs team in Minneapolis. This attorney will serve as a primary employment law advisor for key U.S. client groups, including the North America Supply Chain function, while also supporting U.S. labor law matters and employment litigation management. The role is designed for a lawyer who can provide practical, strategic counsel in an evolving compliance environment and help advance critical enterprise programs and risk-reduction efforts.
The attorney in this role will report to the Vice President, Employment Law, Ethics and Compliance and join a small, collaborative team that provides employment and labor law support globally.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a primary legal advisor on employment law matters for aligned client groups, providing practical counsel with limited direction.
- Act as a key legal partner on U.S. labor law matters, including support for the Labor Relations Director.
- Manage employment litigation and dispute resolution for aligned client groups.
- Support and advise internal centers of excellence such as contingent worker management team, leave and time off team, policy and compliance teams, talent acquisition, and compensation.
- Partner with HR Compliance to manage changing compliance requirements across North America.
- Support development and implementation of training for employees across the enterprise on critical workplace topics, including harassment prevention.
Requirements
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
- 5+ years of experience practicing employment and/or labor law, including litigation and counseling experience.
- Admitted to practice law in Minnesota, or willing to gain admission in Minnesota.
- Strong judgment, strategic and analytical thinking, and business acumen, with the ability to prioritize and work autonomously across multiple matters.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly and concisely to various stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with multiple stakeholders.
- Strong learning agility and a growth-oriented mindset.
Preferred Qualifications
- Labor law experience.
- Familiarity with HRIS systems, e-discovery management, and collective actions.
- Experience advising business clients in operational environments such as supply chain or manufacturing.
Pay
The salary range for this position is $128,900 - $214,900 annually. Pay for the successful candidate(s) could fall anywhere within this range based on factors such as education, skills, work experience, and certifications.
