Costume Shop Intern
About the role
The Costume Shop Intern will learn about the functions of an educational Costume Shop, from interactions with designers, directors, performers, and choreographers, to costume builds and alterations. Internships are tailored to the skills and interests of the individual student. Interns assist with day-to-day needs of the costume shop, gaining hands-on experience in sewing, crafting, and more within a fast-paced environment that includes Musicals, Concert Dance, Drama/Comedy, and Opera. Specific skills for stage costuming are practiced, such as sewing stretch fabrics for dance pieces, rigging costumes for quick changes, and making costumes easily alterable for multiple wearers. Tracking, labeling, sorting, and recording all costume items are foundational aspects of the work. Training on industrial machines will be provided.
