About the role

We're seeking a Cost Estimator to support our long-term project in Washington, DC. In this role, you will analyze construction, design/build, and architecture and engineering projects to provide detailed cost estimates and ensure cost-effectiveness throughout the project lifecycle.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze drawings and documentation to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates.
  • Assess cost-effectiveness of products, projects, or services, tracking actual costs relative to contract award costs.
  • Consult with clients, vendors, engineers, architects, contractors, and subcontractors to discuss and resolve cost-related issues.
  • Prepare estimates for management planning, vendor selection, and subcontractor evaluation.
  • Identify and quantify cost factors such as production time, raw materials, equipment, and labor expenses.
  • Travel to job sites to gather information on materials, labor requirements, and other project factors.
  • Read and interpret drawings and technical documents to prepare accurate estimates.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders on cost estimates and project profitability.
  • Use sophisticated software to calculate and simulate construction costs and timelines.
  • Evaluate cost-effectiveness and profitability, recommending improvements where applicable.
  • Prepare cost documents, including project management plans, and respond to cost-related needs throughout the project.
  • Accurately predict project costs, size, duration, and profitability by analyzing multiple inputs.
  • Calculate direct costs (e.g., raw materials, labor) and set project timelines.

Requirements

  • Active TOP SECRET clearance (required).
  • Bachelor’s degree in economics, mathematics, building science, statistics, construction management, production management, accounting, finance, or engineering.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience as a planner/scheduler on construction projects.
  • Industry-recognized certification such as Certified Cost Professional (CCP), Earned Value Professional (EVP), Planning and Scheduling Professional (PSP), or Project Management Institute-Scheduling Professional (PMI-SP).
  • Excellent IT and math skills, with proficiency in cost-estimating software (e.g., TS Means, CTC).
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and project management skills.
  • Business acumen and awareness of data confidentiality.
  • Ability to work independently, organize work, and meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of regulations, price trends, and exchange rates in building construction and associated trades.

Pay

The base salary range for this position is $115,000.00 to $170,000.00. Individual pay is determined by work location, job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
