Cost Estimator II
About the role
We are seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented individual who is bright, enthusiastic, and works comfortably in a team environment. You will assist in preparing cost estimates from the conceptual phase through construction documents. This is a great opportunity for an entry to mid-level estimator with an interest in private and public sector architectural and engineering design projects. Responsibilities
- Analyze construction drawings, documentation, and relevant data to prepare accurate estimates for time, cost, materials, and labor, subject to review by a Senior Estimator.
- Support project management by preparing estimates that align with project goals for planning, scheduling, and organizing work.
- Assess cost-effectiveness by tracking actual costs against initial bids throughout the project lifecycle, providing updates and adjustments as necessary.
- Consult with clients, vendors, internal teams, and construction personnel to discuss and formulate estimates, address project concerns, and resolve issues as they arise.
- Maintain clear, professional communication with colleagues, clients, architects, engineers, contractors, and subcontractors to discuss updates, changes, and adjustments to cost estimates.
- Take initiative to collect relevant information from various sources, proactively identify potential challenges, and escalate issues to supervisors for resolution.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree: Bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture, or construction management preferred.
- Experience Requirement: Must have some experience working as a cost estimator, demonstrated through an internship or prior work experience.
- Familiarity with Estimating Software: Ability to learn in-house estimating programs such as On-Screen Takeoff, E-Takeoff, MII, and Sage.
- Problem-Solving Skills: Excellent problem-solving abilities, with the capability to analyze complex situations and propose effective solutions.
- Interpersonal Skills: Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills, enabling effective collaboration with colleagues, clients, and stakeholders.
- Technology Proficiency: Proficient in the Microsoft Office suite, particularly MS Excel, for data analysis, reporting, and project management purposes.
