Cost Estimator

About the Role

This position reports to the Vice President of Operations and involves estimating, scheduling, and coordinating the manufacture of blow molds, complex parts, and assemblies.

Responsibilities

• Analyze blueprints and other documentation to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates.
• Comprehend and envision fixture and tool design.
• Structure job details for work orders.
• Perform closed job review and cost analysis.
• Consult with vendors, customers, and personnel in other departments to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues.
• Work with customers and staff to produce acceptable quotations.
• Seek vendors for specialized services, obtain costs, and lead time for all outside processes to support bid preparation.
• Research prior job costs using databases for new estimates.
• Run scheduling reports and schedule new jobs per estimated labor requirements and capacity.
• Create and maintain a work schedule to build and deliver all products and services on time.
• Set up and utilize scheduling software (JobBoss).
• Plan and set weekly milestones to ensure work is completed on time in the most cost-effective manner.
• Calculate resource loading (people and equipment).
• Monitor and document hours for work in progress.
• Create weekly reports to update customers and the plant on current job status.
• Calculate bottlenecks in advance and recommend solutions.
• Establish and create resource loading priority lists.

Requirements

• 5 years of experience in estimating, scheduling, or a machine shop environment.
• Proficient in reviewing files in 3D CAD software.
• Mold making experience a plus.
• Machining experience with 5-axis a plus.
• Ability to read and clearly understand engineering drawings.
• Experience in MS Office Suite and Excel; experience with integrated ERP systems recommended.
• Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
• Able to work well with Shop Supervisor, machinists, designers, programmers, and management for part production analysis.
• Experience in JobBOSS a plus.
