About the Company

HII’s Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS) division is the largest industrial employer in Virginia, with over 25,000 employees. As the sole designer, builder, and refueler of U.S. Navy nuclear aircraft carriers and one of two providers of U.S. Navy nuclear submarines, NNS leads in advanced technology, manufacturing, and integration of naval ships. Responsibilities

  • Estimate labor and material costs for manufacturing and engineering based on request for proposal (RFP) data from prospective customers.
  • Analyze specifications, including sketches, blueprints, bills of material, or sample layouts, to calculate production costs using labor and material pricing schedules and historical data.
  • Collect cost data from functional representatives, subcontractors, and vendors.
  • Compute cost estimates for raw materials, subcontracted work, and labor.
  • Prepare and maintain historical cost data and create cost models for estimating elements.
  • Prepare cost reports and present findings to management, contract personnel, proposal coordinators, customer representatives, price auditors, vendors, and subcontractors.
  • Occasionally conduct ship checks, which may involve climbing vertical/horizontal ladders and working in confined spaces on nuclear-powered aircraft carriers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree and 6 years of relevant exempt experience; or Master’s Degree and 4 years of relevant professional experience.
  • One of the following may substitute for a Bachelor’s Degree:
    • NNS Apprentice School graduate
    • Navy Nuclear Power School (NNPS) graduate
    • Associate’s Degree or other formal 2-year program and 2 years of relevant exempt experience or 4 years of relevant non-exempt experience
    • Military Paygrade E-5 or above military experience
    • High School/GED and 4 years combined of manufacturing, shipbuilding, trades, military experience, or other relevant exempt experience
    • High School/GED and 8 years combined of manufacturing, shipbuilding, trades, military experience, or other relevant non-exempt experience

Pay

The anticipated salary range for this role is $82,000 to $103,000. Final compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and other job-related factors.
