About the role

Estimates labor and material costs of manufacturing and engineering based on request for proposal (RFP) data submitted by prospective customers. Analyzes specifications, including sketches, blueprints, bills of material, or sample layouts, and calculates production costs using labor and material pricing schedules and historical data. Collects cost data from functional representatives, subcontractors, and vendors. Computes cost estimates of raw materials or subcontracted work and labor. Prepares and maintains historical cost data. Creates cost models for cost estimating elements. Prepares cost reports and presents findings to management, contract personnel, proposal coordinators, customer representatives, price auditors, vendors, and subcontractors.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze specifications such as sketches, blueprints, bills of material, or sample layouts to calculate production costs.
  • Compute cost estimates for raw materials, subcontracted work, and labor using pricing schedules and historical data.
  • Collect cost data from functional representatives, subcontractors, and vendors.
  • Prepare and maintain historical cost data and create cost models for cost estimating elements.
  • Prepare cost reports and present findings to stakeholders including management, contract personnel, customer representatives, and vendors.
  • Perform ship checks that include climbing vertical/horizontal ladders and working in confined spaces on Nuclear Powered Submarines, with occasional travel required for Submarine Fleet Support estimating tasks.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree and 3 years of relevant exempt experience; or Master’s Degree and 1 year of relevant professional experience.
  • One of the following may be used as equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree:
    • NNS Apprentice School graduate
    • Navy Nuclear Power School (NNPS) graduate
    • Associate’s Degree or other formal 2-year program and 2 years of relevant exempt experience or 4 years of relevant non-exempt experience
    • Military Paygrade E-5 or above military experience
    • High School/GED and 4 years combined of Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience or other relevant exempt experience
    • High School/GED and 8 years combined of Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience or other relevant non-exempt experience

Skills

  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, especially Excel.
  • Critical thinking skills and experience with data analysis.
  • Self-starter, team-oriented, resourceful, independent thinker, solutions-focused, adaptable, and flexible individual.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, both verbal and written.

Pay

The anticipated salary range is $64,000.00 to $80,000.00. Final compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and other job-related factors.
