Cost Engineer
About the role
The Cost Engineer/Analyst North America plays a crucial role in the global cost engineering organization. This role provides support to global purchasing, sales, and finance teams by developing cost models for automotive components across various commodities like plastics, metals, tubes, and electrical components. Utilizing activity-based cost accounting principles, the cost engineer assists in sourcing negotiations based on factual data.
Responsibilities
- Develop cost models for automotive components
- Assist purchasing in sourcing negotiations based on factual data
- Utilize activity-based costing principles in the automotive industry
- Support global purchasing, sales, and finance teams
- Analyze production steps and costs in supplier manufacturing facilities
- Work in a cross-functional environment including purchasing, engineering, finance, and sales
- Explain gaps between should costs and supplier pricing based on factual data
- Manage multiple projects with high levels of independent judgment, initiative, creativity, and problem-solving skills
- Communicate effectively with a global team in a timely manner
Requirements
- 3+ years of cost modeling, cost engineering, and/or purchasing experience with a working knowledge of activity-based costing principles
- Bachelor's degree required
- Understanding of activity-based costing principles in manufacturing
- Ability to analyze production steps and costs in supplier manufacturing facilities
- Knowledge of automotive manufacturing processes such as stamping, injection molding, wiring, excursions, and clips
- Ability to work in a cross-functional environment including purchasing, engineering, finance, and sales
- Ability to explain gaps between should costs and supplier pricing based on factual data
- High level of independent judgment, initiative, creativity, and managing multiple projects
- Problem solving and analytical thinking
- Prioritization and time management
- Action-oriented and produces results
- Effective communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills required to communicate with a global team in a timely manner
