Responsibilities
- Receive, fill, and ship products accurately and efficiently, ensuring safe and timely transport to customers and other store locations.
- Perform warehouse functions including receiving, order fulfillment, product picking, wrapping, packing, stock replenishment, customer will call, and inventory cycle counts.
- Maintain a valid driver’s license and comply with all state and federal driving regulations.
- Operate power equipment (e.g., electric pallet, walkie rider, sit-down forklift) safely to locate, move, and store products daily, including stocking, filling bin boxes, and rotating product.
- Receive product by unloading trucks using forklift, pallet jack, or by hand; inspect freight for damage, verify quantities, and complete necessary paperwork for discrepancies.
- Ensure products have verified bar code labels and readable Johnstone stock numbers by scanning, printing labels, and resolving discrepancies.
- Fill orders by picking, packing, and stacking items to minimize damage; document shipments using scan guns and complete required paperwork.
- Label and document hazardous materials shipments correctly.
- Prepare orders for shipment by palletizing, wrapping, loading trucks, and completing necessary paperwork.
- Maintain accuracy and efficiency standards, follow standard operating procedures, and participate in inventory cycle counts.
- Assist in maintaining and upkeeping warehouse machinery and equipment.
- Promote a safe work environment by following safety rules, wearing protective equipment, and reporting concerns promptly.
- Maintain required certifications (e.g., hazardous materials, forklift) and access Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) as needed.
- Maintain professional and courteous communication with customers and coworkers.
Driving Responsibilities
- Provide exceptional customer service through accurate and timely product delivery.
- Serve as a field contact to gather customer service and delivery expectations.
- Safely operate company vehicles and equipment in compliance with DOT, state, federal, and company standards.
- Maintain cleanliness of assigned vehicles and work areas.
- Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance on vehicles/equipment; report defects or repair needs promptly.
- Load and unload trucks, verify deliveries against sales and transfer orders, and prepare routes following schedules and deadlines.
- Drive straight body vehicles (e.g., box trucks) to deliver supplies to customers or other Johnstone locations.
- Maintain communication with supervisors for expedited delivery instructions.
- Report delivery, traffic, safety, or customer issues immediately.
- Record sales/delivery information, complete manifests with signatures, pictures, and returns using an iPad or manual methods.
- Return vehicles fully fueled, complete driver logs, and secure vehicles at the end of the day.
- Submit gas receipts, monies, inspection logs, and other required paperwork.
Requirements
- High School Diploma/GED.
- 1+ years of truck driving experience (26 ft vehicle or larger) or 1 year operating Johnstone equipment/vehicles under supervision; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience operating forklift and other warehouse equipment safely and competently.
- Valid driver’s license with a safe driving record acceptable to the company; must remain eligible to drive a commercial motor vehicle under applicable laws.
- Forklift certification required or willingness to obtain on the job.
Preferred Qualifications
- 6+ months of experience in a warehouse and/or distribution facility, preferably in HVAC/R or related field.
- Experience with picker, RF scanner, and inventory management systems.
- Knowledge of HVAC wholesale industry, principles, and practices.
- Previous experience with OSHA and safety regulations and procedures.
Skills
- Ability to use technology such as GPS, mobile Proof of Delivery (POD) devices, RF equipment, and ERP software.
- Proficiency in reading maps and mapping applications.
- Basic math skills: addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to work safely and operate delivery vehicles and power equipment (e.g., forklift, pallet jack, cherry picker, lift gate).
- Physical ability to lift, push, pull, and maneuver large/heavy products or equipment within safety guidelines.
- Familiarity with warehouse or distribution center management systems and order picking processes.
- Strong organizational, prioritization, and attention-to-detail skills.
- Ability to follow instructions, complete routine paperwork, and work in a team-based environment.
- Excellent customer service, verbal, and written communication skills; ability to demonstrate tact and diplomacy.
- English proficiency (written and spoken) is required for safety and communication purposes.
Physical Demands
- Regularly sit, stand, and walk on a concrete floor for much of the workday.
- Frequently reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds; lift heavier weights with mechanical assistance or team support.
- For driving duties: sit for long periods, experience bouncing/vibration, and use near, distance, peripheral, and color vision.
- Frequently talk or hear.
Schedule
Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM, with some Saturdays.
