About the role

The Plant Materials Engineering group is seeking a Corrosion Test Engineer to lead the development, sponsorship, and reporting of material test programs for nuclear plant and structural materials. This role advances technical knowledge of material performance and corrosion behavior through testing that may occur both in-house and at external sites, requiring occasional travel. These test programs will contribute to a deeper understanding of material performance for design and support emergent fleet and manufacturing challenges.

We are seeking candidates with a strong background in materials science, corrosion testing, and project management. Excellent communication and collaboration skills are essential, as is the ability to lead technical initiatives and work effectively across multidisciplinary teams.

Requirements

Required combination of knowledge and skill:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering, or science field and a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience; or
  • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering, or science field and a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience; or
  • Doctorate degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering, or science field; or
  • Currently an Advanced Reactor Training Engineer, Refueling Engineer, or Field (RPCO) Engineer at the Company.

Preferred Skills

  • Advanced degree (MS or PhD) in Materials Science or Materials Engineering
  • Familiarity with material processing, manufacturing processes, material testing, and prior experience in mechanical and corrosion testing of materials
  • Knowledge of environmentally assisted cracking, fatigue, and mechanical behavior in nickel-based alloys and stainless-steel alloys

Pay

Pay Range: $86,100.00 – $134,600.00 annually. Salary is based on candidate experience, qualifications, market, and business considerations.

All candidates must be U.S. citizens. Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified matter. The Naval Nuclear Laboratory maintains a drug-free workplace and workforce; candidates must pass a drug test in compliance with company policy and 10 CFR 707.
