Corrosion Reliability Engineer II/III

The Marathon Catlettsburg Refinery is seeking a motivated, team-oriented individual to collaborate with Inspection, Engineering, and other refining personnel to ensure the mechanical integrity and reliability of the refinery operating units.

Responsibilities

• Acts as technical lead for updating and implementing Risk-Based Inspection (RBI) strategies.
• Sites program owner for: Integrity Operating windows (IOWs) and Corrosion Control Documents (CCDs).
• Facilitates and participates in corrosion studies to identify potential damage mechanisms and assist in solving material degradation problems.
• Directs the analysis and evaluation of failed equipment and/or components and subsequently provides a summary of the findings, which may include the issuance of guidelines, recommendations, or operational changes with regards to the materials of construction and their application.
• Supports Unit Inspectors with non-routine repair decisions during both routine and turnaround periods.
• Supports unit PHA reviews and leads during material reviews.
• Provides stewardship and consulting support for use of online corrosion monitoring techniques.
• Works with the Unit Inspectors to ensure inspection plans are adequate based on potential and known damage mechanisms.
• Initiates and/or supports strategies that Improve reliability of fixed equipment that affects unit availability.
• Initiates programs which are proactive in ensuring mechanical integrity of fixed equipment assets to facilitate safe and reliable operations.
• Networks with Corporate reliability groups including the Corrosion & Materials Advisory Group (CMAG) and the Risk-based Inspection Work Group (RBIWG).

Requirements

The successful candidate will be placed at a level commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Corrosion Engineering, Metallurgical/Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or related discipline.
• 2 or more years of relevant experience required.
• Preferred Qualifications: Experience with conducting risk assessments, performing failure analysis, and supporting inspection or corrosion engineering activities; Experience as a corrosion/materials engineer in the refining or petrochemical industry; Working knowledge of API and other relevant industry specifications (e.g. API 571, API 510, API 570); Experience supporting an RBI process; Experience working in GE Meridium (APM).
