Corrosion, Pipeline and M&R Technician

About the role

The USGO Columbus Area team is seeking a multiskilled USGO Corrosion/Pipeline /M&R Technician in the Columbus, Ohio area to support the operation and maintenance of our natural gas pipelines and associated facilities.

Responsibilities

• Carry out periodic resistivity and potential surveys on pipelines, compressor stations, and measurement and regulation facilities to identify corrosive areas and monitor cathodic protection systems.
• Inspect and maintain rectifiers and anode structures to ensure they are operating efficiently.
• Assist in analyzing problematic cathodic protection areas and propose solutions.
• Install interference bonds in collaboration with other companies.
• Conduct current requirement tests for new ground bed installations.
• Maintain cathodic protection equipment and perform close interval surveys.
• Carry out atmospheric corrosion mitigation, surface preparation, and coating application inspections.
• Conduct internal corrosion-related sampling activities.
• Maintain Remote Monitoring Units (RMUs) installed on rectifiers.
• Participate in PHMSA and regulatory inspections.
• Assist and lead contractors during cathodic protection (CP) construction.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot malfunctioning systems, equipment, and components.
• Test electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures.
• Receive and maintain equipment documentation and serve as the facility technical resource.
• Locate pipelines per the One Call center and visually mark subsurface pipeline infrastructure with paint, flags, and permanent line markers.
• Create and manage work orders, enter data into job plans, and perform other administrative tasks in SAP/Blue Worx and PCS.
• Oversee and manage pipeline or utility crossings and encroachments, coordinating all work around facilities with landowners, contractors, and customers.
• Complete required DOT and company documentation.
• Perform pipeline maintenance activities such as leak repairs, clearing and inspection of right-of-way, and assisting with valve tie-ins.
• Patrol pipeline right-of-way and conduct leak surveys.
• Coordinate and perform mechanical maintenance activities, including routine corrective maintenance, leak repairs, preventive maintenance, equipment and system improvements, and major maintenance projects.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot malfunctioning systems, equipment, and components.
• Operate company truck and equipment.
• Operate and maintain large and small diameter valves and operators, and other auxiliary equipment.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Demonstrated work experience in a related industry.
• Experience locating and marking subsurface pipeline infrastructure.
• Knowledge and understanding of lock out/tag out (LOTO) procedures.
• Experience in the use of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and related software.
• Knowledge of DOT codes and ANSI/AMSE standards.
• Experience with impressed current ground beds and rectifiers.
• Experience with field data logger (Messa Tablet).
• Experience with pneumatic and electronic valves, transmitters, switches, and regulators.
• Experience with Allen Bradley and/or Bristol controls.
• Experience with test equipment used to maintain control systems.
• Experience with pneumatic and electronic valves, transmitters, switches, and regulators.
• Experience with various types of gas measurement testing equipment.

Qualifications

• Valid driver’s license and a safe driving record.
• Pre-employment medical screening, including drug and alcohol testing.
• On-call rotation 7 days on, emergency response.
• Operator qualifications to perform various tasks.
• Travel to other company locations for temporary assignments, meetings, or training.
• Some overnight stays away from home.
• Live within 30 miles / 45 minutes of the Columbus office location.
