Corrections Officer - Upper Peninsula

About the role

The Michigan Department of Corrections is seeking Corrections Officers for various facilities within its Northern Region. Positions are available at multiple locations throughout the state, with specific details provided in the position descriptions.

Responsibilities

• Oversight and participation in the custody, security, and treatment of prisoners in correctional facilities.
• Learning and development of interpersonal skills required to perform a range of corrections officer assignments.
• Completion of DOC Officer Recruit Training program, consisting of 8 weeks of academy training and 2 months of on-the-job training.
• Annual training and continuing certification as a Corrections Officer.

Requirements

• Education: Completion of 15 semester (23 term) college credits in any field, or equivalent experience.
• Experience: 8 years of full-time corrections officer experience in another local, state, federal, or private correctional institution, or successful completion of basic training in the uniformed services.
• Alternate Education and Experience: 2 years of full-time corrections officer experience in another local, state, federal, or private correctional institution, or completion of basic training in the uniformed services.
• Additional Requirements: Must be at least 18 years old, pass a post-job-offer medical exam, drug screen, and physical fitness test, and complete an approved eight-week corrections officer training program followed by eight weeks of on-the-job training.
