Corrections Food Service Instructor - SCI Phoenix
About the role
Join the Department of Corrections (DOC) as a Corrections Food Service Instructor and help guide inmates at the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Phoenix towards practical skills for future success. This role allows you to shape daily food service operations while building structure and confidence in the inmate workforce. You will make a real impact by teaching safe, efficient, and reliable food service practices.
Responsibilities
- Teach inmates how to prepare, produce, serve, and bake food while following safe and sanitary practices
- Inspect food areas, tools, equipment, and products to ensure they meet required safety and sanitation standards
- Review census and menu information, adjust recipes, recycle leftover food, and manage food and supply inventories
- Plan inmate work tasks, evaluate performance, and maintain all required inmate worker records
- Maintain care and control over inmates during work assignments and exercise physical intervention if necessary
Schedule
Full-time employment, 40 hours/week. Work hours and days off to be determined. Hours will be either 4:30 AM to 12:30 PM OR 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
Pay
Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $49,010.00 (before taxes).
Benefits
This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
Requirements
- Two years of experience in food preparation, production, or service of a variety of complete meal menus in an institutional food service operation, food catering service, restaurant, or in a similar large-scale food production operation; or an equivalent combination of experience and training
- Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA
- Ability to perform essential job functions
- Must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements
