About the role
The Corrections Counselor 2 position at the Harrisburg Community Corrections Center supports reentrants in achieving stability and success. This role involves guiding individuals through various aspects of their reentry journey, fostering a supportive environment, and providing necessary assistance.
Responsibilities
Assist reentrants in setting and achieving goals related to employment, education, housing, and community involvement.
Conduct assessments and provide guidance during urgent situations, making appropriate referrals as needed.
Lead workshops, discussions, and support groups to reinforce pro-social behavior and positive decision-making.
Apply intervention methods such as motivational interviewing and other structured tools to guide progress.
Connect reentrants to social service agencies and participate in meetings, hearings, and community outreach.
Maintain accurate electronic case files, record progress, and comply with all required standards and policies.
Qualifications
Successful completion of the Corrections Counselor 1 training program or equivalent.
One year of professional counseling or casework experience in a correctional facility, and a bachelor’s degree including 18 college credits in any combination of sociology, counseling, psychology, social work, corrections, criminal justice, or a related field.
Obtain Commonwealth Law Enforcement Assistance Network (CLEAN) and Pennsylvania Justice Network (JNET) certification within two months of employment and maintain certification for the duration of employment in this job.
Successfully complete basic training in Elizabethtown, PA and meet the PA residency requirement.
Ability to perform essential job functions.
Special Requirements
Must obtain Commonwealth Law Enforcement Assistance Network (CLEAN) and Pennsylvania Justice Network (JNET) certification within two months of employment and maintain certification for the duration of employment in this job.
Work Schedule and Additional Information
Full-time employment, 40 hours per week.
Work hours are 12:00 PM to 8:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
You will not have the option to telework in this position.
