About the role

The Missouri Department of Corrections is seeking individuals who are passionate about transforming lives and contributing to the rehabilitation and reintegration of offenders. This role involves evaluating offenders' attitudes towards society, preparing recommendations for case planning, and facilitating various programs to help them reintegrate successfully into their communities.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluates the institutional adjustment attitude of offenders and prepares recommendations for ORAS and case planning assignments.
  • Makes facility transfer and disciplinary action recommendations based on evaluations.
  • Verifies and collects information from offenders regarding their home life, family relationships, and work history.
  • Develops and maintains offender classification files, assessing and analyzing classification status.
  • Processes offenders through initial file reviews, protective custody assessments, and enters enemy waivers.
  • Maintains open communication with offenders, handling issues such as laundry, property, financial concerns, and censorship notices.
  • Facilitates offender programs, evaluates civilian visiting requests, and provides pre-release counseling.
  • Collaborates with public and private agencies, law enforcement, and arranges calls for assigned offenders.
  • Works closely with treatment teams and conducts disciplinary hearings.
  • Ensures compliance with established rules and regulations and performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

Four or more years of experience as a Probation & Parole Assistant, Correctional Officer, or Office Support Assistant within the Missouri Department of Corrections. Alternatively, four or more years of vocational or paraprofessional experience in areas such as social services, probation and parole, corrections casework/custody, law enforcement, guidance/counseling, mental health, health, substance use, public/business administration, or experience closely related to the listed responsibilities. Earned credit hours from an accredited college or university may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required experience at a rate of 30 earned credit hours for one year.

Qualifications

Must submit all requested documents by the closing date listed. Eligible for additional differentials based on shift and facility type:

  • $2.00 per hour shift differential for shifts between 12:00pm and 5:00am at 24/7 facilities.
  • $0.75 per hour medium security or $1.50 maximum security differential for full-time positions at qualifying facilities.
  • $1.00 per hour restrictive housing differential for posts within restrict housing/segregation units.

Schedule

Shifts may vary depending on the facility and position.

Pay

The Missouri Department of Corrections offers a guaranteed 1% pay increase for every two years of continuous service up to 20 years. Additionally, there are differentials based on shift and facility type.

Skills

Strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team are essential. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with correctional systems are beneficial.
