Maintained Duties

• Enforce DOC policies and institutional post orders
• Ensure offender and employee safety and confinement conditions

Qualifications

Must be at least 18 years old and possess a valid Driver’s License.

Successful applicant(s) may have to undergo an abuse and neglect screening.

High school diploma or GED.

Knowledge & Abilities

• English grammar, spelling, and punctuation
• Effective communication skills
• Apply correctional methods
• Understand and apply state statutes, ADA, PREA, and DOC policies
• Visual and auditory observation skills
• Intermediate computer keyboarding skills
• Communicate with offenders and families
• Control, direct, and instruct offenders
• Interpret and apply policies and procedures

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift arms above head and kick as high as own waist
• Stabilize another person to accomplish a controlled take down
• Use arms, palms of hands, and feet to deliver blows
• Withstand impact from strikes/blows
• Rotate body 90 degrees with feet planted for striking with foot or using a defensive tactic
• Get down on one or both knees and up again with multiple repetitions
• See and hear to observe, address and respond to potential breaches in safety and security
• Seize, hold, control or subdue violent or assaultive persons
• Demonstrate body agility, strength of all four limbs
• Walk and climb stairs consistently
• Work in various shifts including holidays and weekends
• Work in situations involving assaultive behavior, physical control of another person and/or restraint situations
• Deal with individuals with a range of moods and behaviors
• Communicate by talking, listening and/or signaling people
• Work in an environment with fluctuating noise and temperature (hot and cold)
• Willing and able to travel
• Willing and able to work various shifts, days, afternoons, graveyards (nights)
• Pass TB screening upon hire
