Correctional Officer

Key Responsibilities

• Maintains custody and control of inmates according to established policies, regulations, and procedures.
• Prevents escape or violence by monitoring inmate conduct.
• Inspects jail facilities for security, ensuring locks, windows, and doors are secure.
• Records and logs information about inmates, including identification, charges, and incidents.
• Conducts searches of inmates and cells for valuables or contraband.
• Keeps accurate logs of inmate head counts to ensure all inmates are accounted for.
• Assists inmates with medical needs such as CPR and first aid.
• Applies physical force when necessary to maintain order within the jail.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Good moral character as determined by a thorough background investigation.
• No felony convictions or crimes involving moral turpitude.
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.

Physical Demands/Work Hours

• Regularly required to stand, walk, and drive.
• Near and far vision is necessary due to the need to scan inmate activity and conduct searches.
• Must be able to coordinate arm, leg, and torso movements to exert maximum muscle force in lifting, pushing, pulling, or carrying objects.
