About the role
The Washington State Department of Corrections seeks qualified candidates for Correctional Officer 1 (CO1) and Correctional Officer 2 (CO2) positions at Clallam Bay Corrections Center (CBCC) and Olympic Corrections Center (OCC).
Responsibilities
- Provide safety and security, and assist in controlling, directing, and monitoring the activities and movement of incarcerated individuals.
- Maintain security of the institution and control movement into, out of and within the institution in accordance with established department methods and procedures.
- Work with incarcerated individuals to help them become productive members of society.
- Use interpersonal skills and good communication skills to correct and counteract criminal thinking while maintaining safe confinement environments.
- Manage difficult people through observation, knowledge, skills, and continual practice.
Requirements
- One year of experience as a Department of Corrections (DOC) Corrections and Custody Officer, including successful completion of the CORE (Academy) and the Correctional Officer Field Training Program.
- One year of experience as a Correctional Officer in adult or juvenile corrections where security functions equivalent to a DOC Corrections and Security Officer 2 were performed.

- Valid Driver's license.
- The legal (Constitutional) right to carry a firearm.

Pay
- Corrections & Custody Officer 1 (Full-time): $6,777 - $6,945 Monthly
- Corrections & Custody Officer 1 (On-call): $38.95 - $39.91 Hourly
- Corrections & Custody Officer 2 (Full-time): $7,298 - $7,477 Monthly
- Corrections & Custody Officer 2 (On-call): $41.94 - $42.97 Hourly
Schedule
- Correctional Officers may work an average of 32-40 hours per week, although there is no minimum hour guarantee.
- All correctional officers, including those in on-call positions, are provided with a benefits package including medical, dental, vision, and retirement as well as paid sick leave, holiday pay, and paid vacation.
Relocation Assistance
- $2,500 for candidates moving within WA State.
- $5,000 for candidates moving from out of state.
Facility Information
- Clallam Bay Corrections Center (CBCC) is a 900-bed male facility located on the Olympic Peninsula.
- Olympic Corrections Center (OCC) is a 381-bed male facility located near the Hoh Rainforest.
Training
- Correctional Workers Core (CWC) - a six-week academy for all correctional workers employed in DOC prison facilities.
- On-the-job training throughout employment.

- Pre-employment process includes drug testing and psychological evaluation.
- Selected candidates must provide proof of identity and eligibility to work in the United States.
- Employees may work directly with or in close proximity to incarcerated individuals in a potentially hazardous setting.
- Employment is not contingent upon test results.
- This position is included in a union shop.
- Salary is based on experience and is determined at the time a final offer of employment is made.
