About the Facilities
The Washington State Department of Corrections operates 11 prison facilities with custody levels ranging from minimum to maximum security. Both CBCC and OCC are staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
- Clallam Bay Corrections Center (CBCC): A 900-bed male facility located on the Olympic Peninsula, housing medium and close custody offenders. CBCC also operates an Intensive Management Unit. Custody levels: Medium, Close, and Maximum.
- Olympic Corrections Center (OCC): A 381-bed male facility near the Hoh Rainforest, housing minimum security offenders. OCC offers treatment, work, and vocational programs, including outside work crews and fire crews. Custody level: Minimum.

- Full-time: $6,777 - $6,945/month
- On-call/Hourly: $38.95 - $39.91/hour
- Corrections & Custody Officer 2 (TEAMSTERS Range 49 Step L-M):
- Full-time: $7,298 - $7,477/month
- On-call/Hourly: $41.94 - $42.97/hour
- Relocation assistance: $2,500 for candidates moving within WA state, $5,000 for candidates moving from out of state (available at CBCC only).
- Corrections & Custody Officer 1 (TEAMSTERS Range 46 Step L-M):

- Full-time: $6,452 - $6,945/month
- On-call/Hourly: $37.08 - $39.91/hour

- On-call/Hourly: $38.02 - $42.97/hour
- Relocation assistance is not available for OCC.

Schedule
- On-call staff may work an average of 32-40 hours per week, with no minimum hour guarantee.
- All correctional officers, including on-call, receive benefits if they work at least 20 hours or more each week.
- Overtime is an essential function of this position.

Responsibilities
This job class is designated as in-training. The employee will advance to CO2 after satisfactory completion of the CO1 training requirements.
- Provide safety and security in an adult correctional facility.
- Control, direct, and monitor the activities and movement of incarcerated individuals.
- Maintain security of the institution and control movement into, out of, and within the institution.
- Serve as a positive role model and work with incarcerated individuals to help them become productive members of society.
- Use interpersonal and communication skills to correct and counteract criminal thinking while maintaining safe confinement environments.
- Successfully complete Correctional Worker Core (CWC), a six-week academy for all correctional workers employed in DOC prison facilities.
Requirements
- Graduation from high school or GED.
- Valid Driver’s license.
- The legal (Constitutional) right to carry a firearm.
- Pre-employment process includes drug testing and psychological evaluation.
- Background check including criminal record history.
- Respirator medical evaluation questionnaire, fit testing, training, and use of respiratory protection as required by WA Industrial Safety & Health Act standards.
- Provide valid proof of a baseline TB skin test within 60 days from the date of hire.
Qualifications
To qualify at the Corrections and Custody Officer 2 (CO2) level, you must meet one of the following:
- One year of experience as a Department of Corrections (DOC) Corrections and Custody Officer, including successful completion of the CORE (Academy) and the Correctional Officer Field Training Program.
- One year of experience as a Correctional Officer in adult or juvenile corrections where security functions equivalent to a DOC Corrections and Security Officer 2 were performed.
On-call positions require attendance at 6 weeks of full-time paid training immediately upon hire.
