About the role
The Missouri Department of Corrections seeks individuals who can transform lives through their work in correctional facilities. This role involves supervising and instructing lower-level Correctional Officers, directing major activities, and promoting rehabilitation.
Responsibilities
- Supervises and instructs lower-level Correctional Officers
- Develops expectations and monitors performance and work habits
- Provides assistance with problems as they arise
- Directs a major activity such as control center operation or reception/orientation process
- Patrols living quarters/grounds/buildings to observe offender behaviors and the effectiveness of Correctional Officers
- Directs shift/post assignments, inspects staff arriving for duty
- Performs regular rounds of assigned posts to ensure Correctional Officers are on duty and attentive
- Safeguards discipline among offenders
- Investigates offender disturbances and complaints
- Performs work in accordance with established rules and regulations
- Receives general administrative direction
- Performs other related work as assigned
Requirements
- Three or more years of experience in the custody of adult criminal offenders in a city, county, state, or federal facility
- One year must have been as a Correctional Sergeant or Senior Probation and Parole Assistant with the Missouri Department of Corrections
- High school diploma or proof of high school equivalency (Military service may be substituted for up to one year of the custody experience)
Qualifications
- Physical examination by a physician may be required before or at the time of appointment
Skills
- Ability to supervise and instruct lower-level Correctional Officers
- Experience in directing major activities and maintaining discipline
- Knowledge of correctional facility operations and procedures

Pay
- $2.00 per hour shift differential for shifts starting between 12:00pm and 5:00am at 24/7 congregate care facilities
- $0.75 per hour medium security or $1.50 maximum security differential for full-time work at qualifying facilities
- $1.00 per hour restrictive housing differential for posts within restrict housing/segregation units
Schedule
- Guaranteed 1% pay increase for every two years of continuous service up to 20 years
