About the role

The Connecticut Department of Correction (DOC) is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Correctional Identification and Records Specialist 1. This full-time position is currently based at the MacDougall-Walker Correctional Institution in Suffield, CT. However, this recruitment may be used to fill a potential vacancy at New Haven Correctional Center in New Haven, CT.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures accurate maintenance of the facility or parole system for inmate identification, including tabulation of inmate sentences and other records;
  • Develops and maintains contacts with courts and law enforcement agencies concerning matters of individual inmates related to sentences;
  • Calculates sentences for parole and discharge eligibility, including sentence commutations for good time and other adjustments;
  • Oversees issuance of notices concerning release and discharge of inmates, furloughs, and transfers of inmates to required and authorized recipients;
  • Oversees the compilation and editing of criminal records of each inmate through correspondence and communication with the FBI, CSBI, and other law enforcement agencies;
  • Assigns and reviews unit work for accuracy and thoroughness;
  • Affords assistance in the compilation of current statistical data concerning inmates and monthly and annual statistical reports.

Requirements

This position requires a high school diploma or GED certification. Applicants must demonstrate the following:

  • Four (4) years of clerical work experience;
  • Two (2) years of the General Experience must have been in the maintenance, processing, or control of inmate or criminal records or of an extensive record keeping system involving financial, health, inventory, legal, medical, or other records;
  • Experience in large-volume records management, methods, and techniques;
  • Experience performing arithmetical computations;
  • Experience interpreting statutes and regulations pertaining to sentence calculation;
  • Experience organizing data for entry into database systems;
  • Experience working with RT system/MOCHA System & Collect software;
  • Experience in calculating and inputting time in regard to sentencing from the court;
  • Experience utilizing (JEB) - Judicial Electronic Branch System;
  • Experience utilizing (JIS) - Judicial Information System;
  • Experience with pertinent Judicial Branch paperwork forms, such as sentence modifications and mittimus;
  • Experience with FOI requests/redaction of information.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet the following qualifications:

  • Considerable knowledge of large volume records management, methods, and techniques;
  • Considerable ability to understand and interpret statutes and regulations pertaining to sentence calculation;
  • Considerable ability to organize data for entry into database systems.

Pay

This position is a full-time, 40-hour per week position on first shift. The schedule is Monday-Friday between 8:00am and 4:30pm. Premium holidays (New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day) are paid at the rate of time and one-half for hours worked in addition to regular pay for the day.

Schedule

The Identification & Records Specialist will perform a full range of tasks associated with inmate identification and record keeping. They will independently perform a full range of tasks associated with inmate identification and recordkeeping and oversee the inmate identification and records section.
