CORRECTIONAL COUNSELOR I
About the role
This position is posted on a 12 month limited term basis with the possibility of being extended up to 24 months or becoming permanent.
Responsibilities
- Make recommendations for placement of incarcerated persons in programs or for withdrawal from programs;
- Determine custody requirements of incarcerated persons on an ongoing basis;
- Record observations or contacts with incarcerated persons, families, outside agencies, confidential information, etc.;
- Respond to written or verbal requests from incarcerated persons;
- Reevaluate the program needs of the incarcerated person on an ongoing basis;
- Encourage and discourage specific incarcerated persons' behavior;
- Appears with and/or may represent the incarcerated person at a disciplinary, classification, or parole hearing to discuss/present findings and recommendations.

Pay
$8,809.00 - $10,572.00 B Effective July 1, 2025, the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) was implemented. PLP 2025 requires that each full-time employee receive a 3 percent reduction in pay in exchange for 5 hours of PLP 2025 leave credits monthly through June 2027. Salaries do not reflect recent changes.
Schedule
New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable.
Working Conditions
This position is located at the California State Prison in Corcoran CA, which is accessibly located right off Highway 43. Conveniently located one hour from Lemoore Naval Air Station and Sequoias National Park. Two hours from Yosemite National Park and Pismo Beach.
