About the role
The Nevada Department of Corrections is seeking a Correctional Caseworker Specialist 2 (CCWS2) at Ely State Prison. The incumbent will work under the supervision of a Correctional Caseworker Specialist 3.
Responsibilities
- Sitting on classification committees and inmate reviews
- Evaluating files to assist in decision-making
- Documenting custody, housing, and job changes
- Conducting classification hearings
- Assuming a caseload of special status inmates
- Monitoring due process rights on inmates
- Responding to inmate communications
- Investigating issues regarding inmate funds, property, and problems
- Cooking inmate transfers to other facilities
- Coordinating inmate cell moves
- Chairing/sitting on disciplinary committees
- Processing paperwork
- Documenting files
- Tracking all pertinent inmate disciplinary action
- Preparing parole progress reports
- Coordinating inmate releases with institutional staff
- Notifying inmates, families, staff, and local law enforcement of discharge
- Attempting to solve problems before inmate submits a grievance
- Investigating specific issues brought forth by inmates
Requirements
- Graduation from high school and five years experience in a correctional, parole, or probation setting
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in criminal justice, psychology, sociology, social work, public administration, or closely related field and three years experience
- Master’s degree with specialization in criminal justice, psychology, sociology, social work, public administration, or closely related field and two years of experience
- An equivalent combination of education and experience

- Ability to manage and be a resource for the inmate and/or department for the resolution of problems, both internal and external
- Act decisively on administrative decrees by recording and transmitting information in an authoritative and professional manner

Schedule
Hours are typically 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday, with occasional evening and weekend work as needed.
