About the role
The Kentucky Department of Juvenile Justice is seeking a Correctional Captain to supervise custodial security staff and manage juvenile detention facilities.
Responsibilities
- Supervise all custodial security staff on an assigned shift.
- Coordinate staff schedules and monitor performance.
- Monitor juveniles' behavior and recommend alternative behavior plans.
- Report and document unusual events and behaviors to management.
- Prepare and review incident reports and juvenile records.
- Train and brief oncoming staff.
- Compile administrative reports and inform supervisors of issues and concerns.
- Assist youth with recreational and work-related projects.
Requirements
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Three years of experience in corrections, law enforcement, criminal justice, social work, or similar fields, with at least one year in a supervisory capacity in a custodial security setting.
- Associate's degree from a college or university in corrections, criminal justice, law enforcement, or a related field can substitute for six months of non-supervisory experience.
- Bachelor's degree from a college or university in corrections, criminal justice, law enforcement, or a related field can substitute for one year of non-supervisory experience.
- Completion of the Department of Juvenile Justice Training Academy or equivalent training program approved by the Commissioner of the Department of Juvenile Justice.
- Must be at least 21 years old.
- Valid driver's license required.

Benefits
- Locality premium pay of $5.23 per hour.
- Shift premium of $2.13 per hour for shifts between 3:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m., $1.13 between 11:01 p.m. and 6:59 a.m., and $2.13 on weekends and holidays.
Pay
$57,288.96 annually.
Schedule
Full-time, flexible schedule with potential for overtime and weekend/holiday shifts.
