Location: Mountain City, TN – Department of Correction, Johnson County. Two positions available.

Full-time. Salary: $6,544 – $10,363 monthly ($78,528 – $124,356 annually). Pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check required.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • High-school diploma or equivalent.
  • Five or more years of full-time, increasingly responsible adult security work, including at least three years of supervisory experience.
  • One year of experience as an Inmate Relations Coordinator may substitute for one year of the required supervisory experience.

Special Qualifications:

  • Must be willing and able to qualify with, carry, and use assigned weapons.
  • Must be at least eighteen years of age on the date of application.
  • Must be a United States citizen.
  • Must have good moral character, as determined by investigation.
  • Must complete a criminal-history disclosure form and release all records to the appointing authority.
  • Must supply a fingerprint sample for a TBI criminal-history records check.
  • No felony convictions, no domestic-assault convictions, and no dishonorable discharge from any branch of the U.S. Armed Forces.
  • Must pass a physical examination and psychological evaluation consistent with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug test.
  • Must possess a valid motor-vehicle operator’s license.
  • Upon appointment, must complete all prescribed training at the Tennessee Correction Academy and any online training.
  • Employees assigned to the Transport Division must obtain a Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) permit within six months and the full CDL within eleven months of assignment, and maintain it thereafter.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee staff and outside-agency responses to emergencies such as medical needs, escapes, fires, and natural disasters.
  • Ensure assigned security devices are thoroughly checked and inspected for proper operation.
  • Inspect the correctional facility for compliance with state-mandated policies and procedures, including ACA standards.
  • Maintain knowledge of, comply with, and enforce all institutional policies, rules, procedures, and regulations.
  • Assign security staff to their posts, ensuring all critical and essential posts are filled through proper roster management.
  • Plan activities to meet operational and strategic priorities and prevent scheduling or responsibility conflicts.
  • Perform security inspections (e.g., physical fence and ground checks) to ensure compliance with security standards.
  • Oversee and monitor all calculated use-of-force incidents, such as cell extractions, per policy.
  • Oversee security functions to ensure compliance with TDOC-Institutional policies and procedures, maintaining a safe and secure facility.
  • Prepare and approve records and reports, including shift reports, after-action reports, daily logs, attendance records, pay rosters, discipline reports, inmate passes for court and doctor appointments, and daily population records.
  • Communicate information to supervisors and subordinates regarding daily activities involving staff and inmates.
